John J. Oro MD, FAANS

John after receiving an MD degree and completing a surgical internship at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Dr. Oro obtained neurosurgical training at the University of Missouri Health Sciences Center in Columbia, Missouri. He joined the neurosurgical faculty of MU in 1984, and in 1991 became the Director of the Neurological Surgery Residency Training Program and Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery.

Dr. Oro has a special interest in the treatment of the adult Chiari malformation, syringomyelia, and related disorders. Together with Diane Mueller, NP, in 1998 he established The Chiari Clinic at the University of Missouri. In 2005, Dr. Oro moved to The Medical Center of Aurora in Aurora, Colorado and established The Chiari Care Center. In July 2017, a new center, the Colorado Chiari Institute, was established.
