Dr. John Grady graduated from Loyola University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He received a doctor of podiatric medicine degree from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago and followed with a residency in foot and ankle surgery at Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital.
Currently, Dr. Grady is both chief of podiatry and director of the prestigious podiatric surgical residency program at the Veterans Administration Chicago Healthcare Westside Division. He is also on the surgical staff of Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, and Little Company of Mary Hospital. In addition, Dr. Grady is the founder of Foot & Ankle Institute of Illinois. Dr. Grady also serves as adjunct clinical faculty at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, the California, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa and New York Colleges of Podiatric Medicine, as well as Barry University. He is the former director of the sports medicine department at Scholl College.
A nationally renowned foot and ankle surgeon, Dr. Grady has developed many types of reconstructive surgeries, such as complex diabetic Charcot reconstruction. He has advanced training in peripheral nerve decompression and repair from Johns Hopkins University. He also has advanced training in the use of external fixation for correction of deformities from Ilizarov Training Institute in Kurgan, Russia. Dr. Grady is one of only a handful of ankle replacement surgeons in Illinois and has performed more ankle replacement surgeries than any surgeon in Illinois. Dedicated to conducting research on the care of diabetic ulcerations, Dr. Grady has become one of only a small number of physicians in Illinois who is board certified in wound care. In the forward of his textbook Internal Advances in Foot and Ankle Surgery, Dr. Amol Saxena states, "I am extremely fortunate to have had the training from not only one of the most versatile foot and ankle surgeons but great teacher and human being in John Grady, D.P.M." He was recognized by the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine as the Alumnus of the Year in 2000 and was the recipient of the Milo Turnbo Award for Outstanding Service to the Podiatric Profession in 1985. He also received the esteemed Scholl Medallion in recognition of his professional contributions to the field of foot and ankle surgery. In 2002, he had the honor of giving the commencement address at Scholl College. Currently, Dr. Grady is the scientific chairman of the Midwest Podiatry Conference, which is the largest podiatric conference in the nation, and is a past president of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association. He currently serves on the Board of the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons. He is the recipient of the American Podiatric Medical Association’s Award of Excellence for 2010.
