I am a neonatologist with longstanding interest in the neurosciences. I am continuing my research development under the mentorship of Robert G. Kalb, MD, using C. elegans (a worm) to model hypoxic injury in developing animals.

The relationship between evolving oxygen-sensing ability and hypoxic injury is not well studied. Currently, we are using the worm to begin to address this question and investigate whether intercellular signaling events influence whole animal survival and neural injury.
