Dr. Toney is the Director of Healthcare Epidemiology, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Programs at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Tampa, Florida and Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Disease and International Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. His research interests include investigational anti-infectives and investigational vaccines. He has over 25 years of national and international experience with STD and HIV training including Founding Medical Director of the Southeast Region STD/HIV Prevention Training Center created in 1988; the Center participated as one of the CDC National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers from 2000-2011.
Internationally, Dr. Toney has participated in clinical STD and HIV training in India annually in 2006-2009 in conjunction with USF College of Medicine and College of Public Health CHART-India program. He has participated in over 100 publications and abstracts; he has been the Primary Investigator or Co-Investigator in over 90 clinical trials.
