Dr Williams has both a private and an NHS practice at The Royal Marsden. Dr John E Williams is a consultant anaesthetist, and has been Head of Pain Services at The Royal Marsden since 1996. He qualified in Medicine in 1985 from the London Hospital Medical College, and underwent subsequent training in anaesthetics and pain control in London, Oxford and Baltimore, USA.
He leads The Royal Marsden’s acute and chronic pain control teams. These teams offer a full range of pain treatments, including analgesic medication and nerve blocks. The aim of the team is to make The Royal Marsden a ‘pain-free hospital’, where we address and treat any pain problems that a patient might have. The acute pain team focuses on managing pain after surgery and acute pain associated with radiotherapy. The chronic pain team focuses on managing more persistent pain such as pain after breast cancer surgery.
