John Chilman MA

John has overall responsibility for National Grid’s pension arrangements in the UK and US, including investment, benefit design, risk management, and communications. He also sits on the Fiduciary committee for the US pension plans and 401(k) arrangements. In the UK, John chairs the £28bn Railways Pension Scheme, a large multi-employer plan, which provides benefits to over 350,000 members, has also been a director of its regulated Investment Company. John is also an Independent Trustee Director of the Nestle UK Pension Fund, where he chairs the DC committee.

John is a Chartered Accountant and held a number of financial and M&A roles in South West Electricity and Shell before moving into pensions and reward in the late 1990s. John enjoyed two periods as Group Pensions Director at FirstGroup, sandwiched around a two-year stint as Group Head of Reward at HBOS. He joined National Grid in May 2017. John has an MA from St. Anne’s College, Oxford University.
