Dr Carrigy graduated with honours with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Sydney University in 1988. He served as a Dental Officer with the Royal Australian Army, with promotion to the rank of lieutenant colonel. In 1995 he returned to Melbourne University to complete a Master’s degree in Periodontology. In 1997 as a registered dental specialist he established “Foundation Dental Services” (FDS) to provide support to general practitioners and allied dental health practitioners within the fields of Periodontics, Oral Medicine, Minor Oral Surgery, and Dental Implants. Foundation Dental Services has its main surgical centres located at Taringa (Brisbane inner west), Strathpine to the north and at Mountain Creek on the Sunshine Coast. Visiting branch services are also provided from Mt Gravatt in the south-west through the Brisbane CBD to Stafford and Hervey Bay in the north.
Dr Carrigy would principally describe himself first and foremost - as “a clinician”- who strives to provide a high standard of care to his patients by the practical application of the latest knowledge and techniques within the field of Periodontology. However, many years within the military have also confirmed the fact that “teams” will always outperform the individual. As such, Dr Carrigy has carried this ethos across into FDS where “the team”, (whether referring dentist, hygienist, therapist, prosthetist, fellow specialist, FDS clinician, or support staff) are all seen as ‘central’ to the provision of optimal patient care.
