John Barnhill, M.D., is chief of the division of psychiatry and chief of the psychiatric consultation-liaison service at HSS. He also serves as vice chair for psychosomatic medicine in the department of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) and as chief of the consultation-liaison service for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center (NYPH/WCMC). In these roles, he helps supervise a team of students and residents who perform psychiatric consultations throughout HSS and NYPH/WCMC. In regards to his efforts at HSS, Dr. Barnhill participates in weekly SLE rounds and in a variety of forums related to the psychiatric aspects of orthopedic conditions.

Dr. Barnhill's international focus has been on Africa, where he is on the WCMC Faculty Committee for the Weill Bugando Medical College in Mwanza, Tanzania. In that role, he has directly taught Tanzanians at various levels of their medical training and has mentored psychiatry residents in Tanzania who are visiting from Weill Cornell. To further this effort, he serves on the International Psychoanalytic Association's Committee to the United Nations.
