John B.Watkins III, grew up in Florida amid the snakes and critters of the Atlantic ocean. He completed the bachelors degree in chemistry at Wake Forest University and the masters and doctorate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After his postdoctoral sojourn at the University of Kansas Medical Center in the laboratory of Curt Klaassen. He began his academic career at the Indiana University School of Medicine center for medical education in Bloomington. Having risen through the academic ranks, he is now Assistant Dean and Director of the IUSM Medical Sciences Program, Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology and Adjunct Professor of Optometry. His research efforts have examined the effects of diabetes mellitus on hepatobiliary function and biotransformation, and have examined the effects of antioxidant therapy on the oxidative stress induced by diabetes.
