Johann Auer MD, FESC, FACC, FSCAI

Dr. Johann Auer, M.D., is the Director of the 1st Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Intensive Medicine at the General Hospital “St. Josef” Braunau in Austria. Since 2003, he is a Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at the Medical University of Graz, Austria. In addition, he is a Senior Staff Member in Interventional Cardiology at the Kepler Medical University Linz, Austria. Between 1999 and 2007, Dr. Auer was a senior staff member at the department of Cardiology and Intensive Care at the General Hospital Wels, Austria (Prof. O. Pachinger, Prof. B. Eber).

Dr. Auer has an international reputation in the field of Clinical and Interventional Cardiology with a focus on Atrial Fibrillation, Valvular Heart Disease, and Acute Cardiovascular Care. He received his medical degree and doctor of medicine (1991) from the University of Vienna, Austria. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Intensive Care, and Geriatrics.

He has been promoted to "Associate Professor [Universitätsdozent]" in 2003 at the Medical University Graz, Austria (Prof. W. Klein). In 2019 he has been elected as a Senator of the Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg, Austria. He has authored over 150 peer review publications with an impact factor exceeding 650 mainly as first and senior author (h-index 37, I-10 index 96; 2021 January, In addition, he has authored several books and book chapters and he is involved in numerous conferences as an organizer and invited speaker. Dr. Auer is actively involved as a trialist in numerous international clinical studies in the field of cardiovascular medicine.

Dr. Auer is a Fellow of the ESC (FESC), ACC (FACC), AHA (FAHA), and SCAI (FSCAI). He is a member of the Editorial Board of the European Heart Journal (since 2010), Atherosclerosis (since 2013), European Heart Journal-Acute Cardiovascular Care (since 2018), and co-editor of the Journal für Kardiologie (since 2021).
