Pediatrician Joan-Carles Suris Granell is a specialist in adolescent health. His research focuses on chronically ill adolescents, the transition from pediatrics to adult care, and risky behaviors. He was appointed associate professor of UNIL at the University Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine of the CHUV on June 1, 2015.

Joan-Carles Suris Granell is interested in adolescents with chronic illnesses. Her research focuses on both risky behavior and the transition from pediatrics to adult care. He is also interested in the misuse of substances by adolescents, tobacco, and cannabis in particular, as well as the consumption of substances by young athletes. It also explores the sexual behavior of young people, be it unwanted sexual experiences or sexual dysfunctions. Over the past twenty years, the doctor has adapted his research to new addictions, such as gambling and problematic internet use.

The doctor aims to maintain the Research Group on Adolescent Health (GRSA) of the CHUV, which he has directed since 2003, as a nationally and internationally recognized reference center in the field. In particular, he wishes to strengthen collaborations at all levels and create a postgraduate course program in collaboration with the Institutes of Psychology and Social Sciences of UNIL. The development of clinical research and the practical application of its results are also at the heart of GRSA's mission.

Joan-Carles Suris Granell's research has been regularly recognized with awards from various national and international scientific societies (including Dr. Iris F. Litt Visiting Professorship in Adolescent Health Research 2015 of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine) and supported by prestigious scholarships from the Federal Office of Public Health and the Swiss National Science Foundation. The specialist is also a member of several scientific committees and learned societies, including the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, the International Association for Adolescent Health, and the Swiss Pediatric Society.

He is the author of over 100 publications in leading scientific journals in the field of adolescent health such as Pediatrics, Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, or the Journal of Adolescent Health. He has also written reports and book chapters, as well as a book for parents of teenagers. The professor is also very involved in pre- and postgraduate education at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of Lausanne and has supervised several doctoral and Master students.
