Dr. Jiawei Zhou is the Head of the Laboratory of Development and Degeneration of Basal Ganglia. He received his Bachelor's (1985) and Master's (1988) degrees from Nantong University Medical School in China. He then earned his Ph.D. degree in Neurochemistry from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London, U.K., in 1996. Following postdoctoral training at the University of Hahnemann in the United States, Dr. Zhou established his own laboratory in the Shanghai Institute of Physiology in 1998. In 2001, he moved to the Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences as a Principal Investigator. He joined ION in August, 2007. His research interest focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying development and degeneration of basal ganglia in mammals.
