Professor Ji-Won Yang is the Executive Director of Advanced Biomass R&D Center (ABC), the largest consortium project on biofuels and biorefinery in Korea ($110 M) that involves over 250 researchers from more than 20 universities, national laboratories, and private companies. He is a full professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles in the fields of environmental biotechnology and bioenergy. He was the editor-in-chief of the Korean Journal of Soil and Groundwater and is a member of editorial boards of Bioresources Technology and Algal Research. He was the former Vice-President of External Affairs of KAIST and served as the President of ‘Korean Society of Biotechnology and Bioengineering’. He also has been a leading voice of environmental protection and green technology initiatives in Korea. Because of his significant service, leadership, and contribution, Professor Yang has received many honors and awards from the Korean government and academic societies, including the National Medal of Technology and Innovation from the Prime Minister of Korea. He received Bachelor of Science from Seoul National University and Ph.D. from Northwestern University in chemical engineering.
