Jennifer Peterson MD

Jennifer L. Peterson, MD, is a board-certified radiation oncologist and Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, with a joint appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery. She specializes in the treatment of central nervous system tumors, hematologic malignancies, sarcomas, desmoid tumors, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Her clinical expertise includes the management of primary and metastatic brain tumors, spinal tumors, lymphoma, leukemia, and other complex cancers using advanced radiation techniques designed to maximize tumor control while minimizing treatment-related toxicity.

Dr. Peterson earned her Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Auburn University and her Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine followed by a residency in Radiation Oncology, serving as Chief Resident during her training. She is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and has built a multidisciplinary clinical practice that integrates radiation oncology with neurosurgery, hematology, and medical oncology to deliver personalized, evidence-based cancer care.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Peterson leads an active research program focused on optimizing treatment strategies for central nervous system tumors and hematologic malignancies. Her research investigates stereotactic radiosurgery, radiation therapy for gliomas, acoustic neuromas, radiation necrosis, re-irradiation for recurrent brain tumors, and novel radioisotope therapies for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. She serves as a co-investigator on numerous clinical trials and collaborates extensively with experts in neuro-oncology, hematology, and neurosurgery to develop safer, more effective cancer therapies. A dedicated educator and national leader in radiation oncology, Dr. Peterson has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and serves in leadership roles with organizations including the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), the American College of Radiology, the Florida Radiological Society, and the International Lymphoma Radiation Oncology Group.
