Jennifer Charlton, MD, is an associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Nephrology at UVA. Her research focuses on the effect of preterm birth on the development and long-term function of the kidneys. She is a founding member of the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative, which works to improve the renal health of vulnerable newborns, and she maintains an active role on the steering committee.

Dr. Charlton is a native Floridian, the oldest of three children. She attended the University of Florida for undergraduate training and the University of South Florida in Tampa for medical school. She met her husband in medical school and they couples-matched to the University of South Carolina, where she completed her pediatric residency training. They moved to Charlottesville in 2007, where Dr. Charlton completed her nephrology fellowship and earned a master's in clinical research at UVA.
