Dr. Jelena Lewis is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice in Ambulatory Care. Dr. Lewis received her bachelor's degree in biochemistry, with a minor in mathematics, from the University of California Los Angeles. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California, where she was a member of Rho Chi, the academic honor society in pharmacy. Dr. Lewis completed her pharmacy practice residency with an emphasis in ambulatory care and community pharmacy practice at the University of Southern California. During her residency, Dr. Lewis was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy. Upon completion of her residency, she worked as a clinical pharmacist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation for six years.
During her time at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Lewis worked in the drug therapy management department as well as medical home which focuses on providing care to patients via an interdisciplinary team consisting of physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and case managers. She managed patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and provided travel and smoking cessation consultations. She helped expand and develop the Cedars-Sinai Injection Center which focuses on cost savings for injectable medications and vaccines. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Lewis also served as a preceptor to medical residents, pharmacy residents, and pharmacy school students on their APPE rotations at Cedars-Sinai. Her research interests include helping develop and implement ambulatory care programs and tracking pharmacist interventions and outcomes.
