Prof. Jeff Stansbury received his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Maryland (1988) with work in the area of radical and cationic ring-opening polymerization. He was a research chemist in the Biomaterials Group at the National Institute of Standards & Technology until 2000, when he was recruited to develop a biomaterials program at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. Within the dental school, he is ViceChair of the Department of Craniofacial Biology as well as Senior Associate Dean for Research.

His research group extends to the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering on the CU Boulder Campus. Stansbury’s research interests are in the areas of photopolymerization, polymeric networks and heterogeneous polymers for use in dental materials as well as many other applications. He has more than 160 publications and numerous patents with several of these currently adopted by industry. Stansbury is a fellow of the Academy of Dental Materials and the American Association for Dental Research. He received the Souder Award as an IADR Distinguished Scientist and is the current president of the Academy of Dental Materials as well as a principal in a start-up company.
