Dr. Runge has over 30 years of experience as an emergency medicine physician and Federal government executive and currently is a consultant in public policy and strategy in the fields of biodefense, medical preparedness, emergency medical services delivery and road safety. Starting in 2001, he served seven years as the head of two federal government agencies in the Departments of Homeland Security and Transportation. Since 2008, he has provided strategic consulting for companies in the health, defense and security sectors as well as corporate board service for two public companies in the medical care and biodefense sectors. He currently directs a program for the University of North Carolina developing assets for emergency bio-preparedness and biological surveillance.
