Dr. Jeffrey Sumner, a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, received his undergraduate degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his medical school degree from Albany Medical College. He performed his orthopaedic training as a resident at the Albany Medical Center Hospital, which he completed in 1984. Because of his continued interest in spinal deformities, Dr. Sumner furthered his studies with a fellowship at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas under the direction of the renowned Dr. Alexander Brodsky. Since completing this fellowship, his practice has been primarily directed to the treatment of adult spinal disorders, including degenerative as well as traumatic injuries.

Dr. Sumner has continued to expand his research in the treatment of skeletal trauma by independent study and is an active participant on the trauma panel at both the Hospital of St. Raphael and Yale-New Haven Hospital. Also, he has traveled extensively over the United States presenting seminars and conducting research regarding the spine, trauma, and general orthopaedics. Dr. Sumner is on staff at Yale-New Haven Hospital serving as the Community Assistant Chief of the Orthopedics and Rehabilitation department and a member of faculty of Yale Medical School and regular lecturer to Residents and Medical Students. Dr. Sumner is a member of the North American Spine Society and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association through which he participates in the Resident Trauma Training Course. As a member of A-O North America, he participates as faculty in teaching seminars in Spine and Trauma instructing practicing surgeons, residents, and OR personnel.
