Jeffrey Waugh, MD, PhD, is a pediatric neurologist specializing in movement disorders. He completed his residency training at Boston Children's Hospital and the Partners Health Care neurology program, and then completed a movement disorders fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. He splits his time between clinical care of children and young adults with movement disorders, and research into the genetic and structural causes of dystonia.

Dr. Waugh uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to determine how brains with dystonia are different from those without dystonia. Two examples include a dystonia-related increase in brain activity produced by a movement task, and decreases in the connectivity between regions of the brain involved in the control of movement. Imaging studies such as these, as well as the genetic and molecular research conducted by other members of the Mass General Dystonia Clinic, will be essential in developing the next generation of treatments for dystonia.
