Dr Macalena joined the University of Minnesota Department of Orthopedic Surgery as an Assistant Professor in 2011. He has a clinical interest in sports medicine and athletic injuries to the knee. Dr Macalena’s specific interests include knee ligament reconstructions, cartilage surgery, meniscus surgery, and joint preservation. He was appointed a director of M Health's cutting-edge Cartilage Restoration and Joint Preservation Program in 2019.
