Jean Pierre Bourguignon PhD

Jean-Pierre Bourguignon received his diploma as a Doctor of Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics in 1974. From that time, he was busied with many university related and hospital related duties, including research and teaching. He obtained his higher education teaching certification (agrégation) from the University of Liège in 1984. Beginning in 1993, he taught several courses at the ULg, in the second and third cycles of instruction as well as in continuing education, including courses in semiology and internal pediatric pathology, normal and pathological growth in children and adolescents, promotion of good health in children and adolescents, etc. In collaboration with Professor J. Boniver, he contributed to the implementation of problem-based learning in the Faculty of Medicine beginning in 2000. After having served as a visiting professor and lecturer at a number of universities in Belgium and in the United States, he began in 1985 to work closely with young doctoral candidates and visiting foreigners.

In the clinical realm, Professor Bourguignon is the director of the pediatric diabetology-endocrinology Unit, and for the last two years has been a founder and director for the Center for Obesity in children and adolescents at the CHU-N. D. des Bruyères. Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon is a pediatric endocrinologist, working especially with the Belgian Study Group for Pediatric Endocrinology, and pursuing research into pediatric diabetology and endocrinology and developmental neuroendocrinology at the Center for Research into Neurosciences (CNCM). He also carries out research in the area of pedagogy, concerning the development of the capacity for clinical reasoning and the transfer of knowledge from different contexts during medical studies.
