Jean-Philippe Guyot studied medicine in Neuchâtel and Geneva, supplemented by specializations in otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery (FMH in 1991). He also stays at the Health Science Center in Syracuse, New York, as visiting assistant professor. He was appointed privat-docent of the Faculty of Medicine of Geneva in 1993, and became doctor in charge of the HUG Unit of Otoneurology. He is appointed Associate Professor, Head of ENT Department and Head and Neck Surgery in 2004. Pr Guyot is an ear specialist and is mainly interested in balance disorders.
His research mainly concerns the development of a vestibular implant, a kind of artificial ear that makes it possible to restore the deficient function. This particularly innovative approach makes Geneva the only group in the world that has developed an implant prototype and has already tested it in several patients. Professor Guyot was promoted to the position of Full Professor in the Department of Clinical Neuroscience in April 2014.
