Jean-Louis Mas is Professor Emeritus of Neurology at Paris Cité University. He headed the Neurology department at Sainte-Anne Hospital, GHU Paris Psychiatrie Neurosciences, from 1995 to 2022, within which he maintains a consulting activity. He was responsible for teaching neurology at the Cochin Port-Royal medical faculty, then at the Paris Descartes University.

He is the former president of the French Neuro-Vascular Society and the French Society of Neurology. Internationally, he has held various positions, notably within the European Stroke Organization (chairman of the recommendations committee) and the World Stroke Organization (member of the board of directors).

Jean-Louis Mas led a research team on stroke from 2009 to 2022, within the Center for Psychiatry and Neurosciences (Inserm U894) which became the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurosciences of Paris (Inserm U1266). His research concerns cerebrovascular pathology and aims to identify new causes of stroke and evaluate new therapeutic strategies. He is the author of more than 500 publications, including several in prestigious journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet, or JAMA, and has coordinated several works on stroke. He is the founding president of the  Stroke Research Foundation.

Jean-Louis Mas has received several prizes or distinctions and was elected a corresponding member of the National Academy of Medicine.
