After earning his degree in medicine from Université de Montréal, Dr. Jean-François Tanguay went on to specialize in internal medicine and cardiology. He then trained in interventional cardiology and research at the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) and Duke University.

During his post-doctoral training funded by the Association des cardiologues du Québec (ACQ) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS), his work paved the way to the development of the first fully bioabsorbable drug eluting coronary stent. In hemodynamics, he successfully implanted the first bioresorbable stent in North America in a patient treated at the MHI. He continued his research projects with the investigation of methods and treatments to promote vascular healing and reduce thrombo-inflammatory phenomena after percutaneous revascularization and acute coronary syndrome.
