Jean-Claude Baron, MD, ScD (Cambridge), FRCP (UK), FMedSci (UK), trained in both Neurology and Medical Physics at Paris University and Salpêtrière Hospital. As research fellow at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital in 1976-77, he trained in novel imaging techniques to map cerebral blood flow and metabolism, including positron emission tomography (PET). From 1978-1988 he was head of the neuroscience imaging programme at the Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique (CEA), Service Hospitalier Frederic Joliot, Orsay, France. In 1986 he was appointed Director of Research at INSERM, France. From 1989-2000 he was Head of the INSERM Neurosciences Unit and Scientific Director of the PET laboratory at Caen University, France. In 2000 he was elected to the Chair of Stroke Medicine, Cambridge University Dept of Clinical Neurosciences. Until 2010 he held this chair as well as executive roles at the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre, and was Neurology Consultant at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. He is currently Emeritus Professor and Voluntary Director of Research at Cambridge University,
