Fruchart is currently a Professor at the Pasteur Institute of Lille; President of the Foundation “Coeur et Artères”; and President of the Residual Risk Reduction Initiative. Jean-Charles Fruchart served as Director of the Lipoproteins and Atherosclerosis Research Department at the Pasteur Institute of Lille (1984-2006). He served as President of the International Task Force for Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease (2003-2006). He founded GENFIT in 1999 and served as its President of the Supervisory Board until 2008. He Founded Cardialpha/Naturalpha and served as its President of the Scientific Council (2003-2008). He served as President of the Scientific Board of It. Omics. He served as President of the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS) (2007-2009). He served as President of the Association of Cholesterol Research (ARCOL) (1994-2003). He served as President of the Scientific Council at University Lille II (1997-2000). He served as a Member of the Advisory Board of Chronogen, Inc. He served as a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Perlegen Sciences, Inc.
Fruchart received the Gold Medal from the Pasteur Institute in 1994. In 1995, he was named Knight of the Legion of Honour. In 2005, he was promoted to Officer in the National Order of the Legion of Honour. Based on his work on transcription factors regulating lipoprotein metabolism and on the discovery of the molecular mechanism of action of fibrates, he was awarded the Galien Price in 1998, which recognizes the most innovative research into new medicines. In 2003, he received the Gold Medal from the Lorenzini Foundation and was awarded Anitschkow Prize (2008). He is the author of more than 700 scientific articles in the most prestigious international publications. Professor Fruchart was Chairman of the European Atherosclerosis Society Meeting (1994) and Co-Chairman of the International Atherosclerosis Society Meeting (1997). He initiated and chairs the Metabolic Syndrome, Diabetes, and Atherosclerosis Congress since 2002.
