Jayanthi Undamatla has over 20 years of experience in Clinical Diagnostics and Research. After completing her masters in life sciences from University of Hyderabad, PhD in Cytogenetics from Osmania University and postdoctoral fellowship in Neurobiology from State University of New York, she joined Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad as a consultant in 2003. She established Molecular Medicine Department in Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad to offer diagnostic services in Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Diagnostics. Eventually she also established a stem cell laboratory to study the role of stem cells in various clinical conditions including critical limb ischemia, cardiomyopathy, spinal cord injuries etc.

During her tenure at Apollo Hospitals, she was extensively involved in JCI (Joint Commission International for hospital accreditation), NABL (National Accreditation Board for Laboratory services) documentation, implementation and quality management processes. She also taught DNB pathology at Apollo. She handled DST funded projects in discipline of nanotechnology in collaboration with Department of Physics, University of Hyderabad and NCI, NIH (U.S.A) funded project on head and neck cancers.

In 2009, she established an institute “Translational Research in Molecular Sciences (TRIMS)” in Vishakhapatnam to offer services in various disciplines of clinical diagnostics and also to offer services to cater the research requirements of various educational institutes. She is recipient of NCI, NIH, USA fellowship program, 2010 on “Principles and Practice of Cancer Prevention and Control Course & Molecular Prevention Course”.

She successfully completed the course. Currently she is working at Sandor Lifesciences Pvt., Ltd., as Lab Chief to take care of diagnostics and support R&D activities. She has several international publications. She is also a reviewer for several life science journals as well as a reviewer for doctoral dissertations. Her current research focus is on Genetic counselling, developing new diagnostic assays mainly for Inborn Errors of Metabolic Disorders (IEMs) and Molecular tests. Over the years, she has developed technical expertise in Clinical Molecular Diagnostics, Clinical Cytogenetics and Genetic Toxicology.
