Jay S. Skyler, MD, MACP is currently a Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics, & Psychology, in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, Department of Medicine, University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. He served as Director of that Division from 2000 to 2004. He is Deputy Director of Clinical Research and Academic Programs at the Diabetes Research Institute, where he previously was Area Leader for Immunomodulation and Tolerance.

Dr. Skyler's current research interest is in interdicting the type 1 diabetes disease process in human beings. To this end, he studied various interventions, including immune modulating drugs to stop the immune damage to beta cells and/or promote regulatory immunity; agents that enhance beta cell health; and approaches designed to tamper islet inflammation (either with pharmacologic agents and/or cellular therapeutic approaches).
