Jason A. Flannick received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University, writing his thesis on approaches to compare protein interaction networks across different species. He spent four years as a Postdoctoral Fellow in David Altshuler's lab at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Broad Institute, where he focused on the analysis of next-generation sequencing data to inform on the genetic basis of type 2 diabetes (T2D). He has published papers on methods for analyzing sequence data, understanding and characterizing the genetic architecture of T2D, and applying genetics to predict the risk of T2D or guide hypotheses to treat T2D. He is currently a Research Associate at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he continues this research, and a Senior Group Leader at the Broad Institute, where he leads a team developing a knowledgebase and portal to make insights from sequence data accessible to a broad community of researchers.
