Janice F. Kauffman is vice president of Addiction Treatment Services for North Charles Foundation, Inc., director of addictions consultation for the Department of Psychiatry, Cambridge Health Alliance, and assistant professor of psychiatry, Harvard Medical School. She was the director of the Addiction Psychiatry Service at Brigham and Women's Hospital from 1991-2009.

Kauffman has worked with addictive disorders for over 40 years in direct treatment, program development and management, teaching, and local and national policy initiatives. She is the founder and president of the Massachusetts Methadone Treatment Providers Association, and the Massachusetts delegate, first vice president, and chair of the Policy Committee for the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence Board of Directors. She was a co-chair for the Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP 43): Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Addiction in Opioid Treatment Programs, Washington D.C., Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA). Her areas of expertise include opioid dependence, dual diagnosis, pain and addiction, addictions in general hospitals, addiction and primary care integration, and addicted medical professors.
