Jan Wouters obtained a PhD in physics from the University of Leuven, Belgium, with highest distinction in 1989. From 1989 till 1992 he was a Postdoc Research Fellow with the National Fund for Scientific Research (FWO) at the Institute of Nuclear Physics (UCL Louvain-la-Neuve) and at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (USA) with a Fullbright-Hays award. Since 1993 he is a Professor at the Dept. of Neurosciences of the KU Leuven (Full Professor since 2005) where he teaches 5 physics and audiology courses. His research focuses on audiology, auditory neural processing and auditory prostheses, the whole chain from mathematics to perception. He is author of about 290 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. He is in the executive board of the Dept. of Neurosciences of KU Leuven, associate editor of 3 international journals, past president and present secretary-general of the European Federation of Audiology Societies EFAS, president of the Belgian Audiology Society B-Audio, secretary-general of the International Collegium of Rehabilitative Audiology ICRA.
