Jan Verbruggen MD, PhD

Dr. Verbruggen studied medicine at the Catholic University of Leuven. After obtaining his medical degree, he was trained as a surgeon in the University Hospitals of the University of Leuven and the hospitals affiliated with it. In 1993 he was recognized as a General Surgeon, after which he further specialized in trauma surgery at the Klinikum in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, and subsequently at the Maastricht UMC + (then Academic Hospital Maastricht). He worked for a year as Oberarzt at the Unfall Surgery department of the Klinikum in Aachen and returned to Maastricht UMC + in 1999 as a staff member for Surgery with a focus on Trauma Surgery.
