Jan-Karl Burkhardt, MD, has joined the Department of Neurosurgery as an assistant professor of neurosurgery. Dr. Burkhardt completed neurosurgery residency training at the University Hospital Zurich, in Switzerland, one of the world’s leading centers for cerebrovascular surgery, followed by a cerebrovascular surgery fellowship at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco and a neuroendovascular surgery fellowship at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Burkhardt’s clinical practice will focus on neurovascular disorders, including complex and previously treated vascular lesions, employing both open microsurgical and endovascular techniques. In addition, Dr. Burkhardt has unique expertise in cerebral revascularization with extracranial-intracranial bypass surgery for moyamoya disease and is actively engaged in research to better understand the pathogenesis of moyamoya disease.
