Dr. Jamie Marko earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Misericordia University in 2002. He earned his medical degree from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in 2006. He completed a Transitional Internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, IL in 2007. He completed a Residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in 2011. He served as chief resident during his final year of residency.

After completing residency training, Dr. Marko spent two years practicing general diagnostic radiology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) as an active-duty Naval Officer. He then completed fellowship training in abdominal imaging at the National Capital Consortium in 2014. He returned to Walter Reed to serve two additional years as an abdominal radiologist prior to leaving active duty military service.

Dr. Marko came to the NIH in 2016 and has served as the lead physician for an ultrasound since that time. Dr. Marko’s clinical work focuses on interpreting complex body imaging examinations, including MRI, CT and ultrasound. Within the ultrasound section, Dr. Marko has worked to expand access to cutting-edge techniques, including shear wave elastography. He has worked with colleagues at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to provide access to high-quality vascular ultrasound within the Clinical Center. Dr. Marko contributes to the interdisciplinary care of patients at the Clinical Center by regularly participating in numerous interdisciplinary conferences.

Dr. Marko is broadly involved in research, developing collaborations with multiple Institutes and Centers. His research interests are broad but mainly focus on using MRI and ultrasound to provide better care to patients. He has been involved in work using MRI to evaluate prostate cancer, screen for malignancy in patients with Li-Fraumeni syndrome, and to assess disease activity in large-vessel vasculitis. He has used ultrasound to study a number of conditions including liver fibrosis, testicular adrenal rest tissue, and vascular abnormalities in patients with William’s syndrome. Dr. Marko is devoted to radiology resident education. Prior to coming to NIH, Dr. Marko was heavily involved in graduate medical education. He served as Program Director of the National Capital Consortium Body Imaging fellowship from 2014 until 2016. He also served as Associate Program Director of both the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program and Transitional Internship at WRNMMC between 2012 and 2016.

Within RADIS, he serves as the supervisor of rotating residents from WRNMMC. Additionally, he serves as Associate Section Chief of Genitourinary Imaging at the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology (AIRP), an organization committed to educating radiology residents in the discipline of radiologic pathology.
