Jamie is an MIT-trained mechanical engineer who entered biomedicine after his brother was diagnosed with ALS in 1999. Jamie has founded/co-founded 5 companies including PatientsLikeMe, ALS Therapy Development Institute, AOBiome, The SocialMedwork, and Genetic Networks.
Jamie was appointed to the National Biosurveillance Advisory Subcommittee (NBAS) under Presidents Bush and Obama and was a long-term member of the National Academy of Medicine’s Roundtable on Value & Science-Driven Health Care.
His work has been profiled in the New Yorker, 60 Minutes, TEDMED, Pulitzer Prize winner Jonathan Wiener’s book, His Brothers Keeper, and in the Sundance award-winning documentary So Much So Fast.
