Jamie Bates has 10 years of experience in Biotech spanning oncology and fibrosis at Gilead Sciences. She is currently a Director of Oncology, leading a new group focused on targeting tumor stromal and myeloid biology. After obtaining a Ph.D. from Berkeley and completing a post-doc at Stanford, She joined the oncology department at Gilead Sciences, where she led the biology for an early-stage program and coordinated the drafting of the pharmacology reports for a successful IND. she then moved into the field of Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), where she helped to build our fibrosis expertise, led the evaluation of potential combination partners for early stage clinical assets, and supported the evaluation of new targets and BD opportunities. Managing a group of about 7 scientists, I rose to the Director level, leading both small and large molecule projects, working cross-functionally to make key decisions driving the teams toward IND, and leading non-clinical teams supporting clinical-stage assets. In 2020, She moved back to Gilead oncology to help drive our tumor microenvironment efforts, reflecting a marriage of my two areas of expertise; oncology and fibrosis. Her goal is to develop drugs that will complement current immunotherapy approaches, to broaden the response to such therapies.
