Jamie Almeida MS

Jamie Almeida is a research biologist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, specializing in cell measurements, gene delivery systems, regenerative medicine, and biotechnology standards development. As a member of the Biomarker and Genomic Sciences Group, she leads initiatives focused on improving the reproducibility, characterization, and standardization of advanced therapeutic technologies, including viral vectors, lipid nanoparticles, and cell-based analytical systems.

Since joining NIST in 2010, Almeida has played a central role in the development of documentary standards, reference materials, and interlaboratory studies that support the biotechnology and gene therapy industries. She serves as a convenor and contributor within the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 276 on Biotechnology, helping establish global standards for nucleic acid analysis, viral vector quantification, and gene delivery system characterization.

In addition to her scientific research, Almeida collaborates across government, industry, and academic sectors to improve measurement assurance and analytical reproducibility in advanced therapy manufacturing and biological systems. Her work has earned multiple honors, including the U.S. Department of Commerce Bronze Medal Award and the NIST William P. Slichter Award. She holds a B.S. in Microbiology from Arizona State University and an M.S. in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University.
