Mr James Tysome is a consultant ENT surgeon at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. He specialises in hearing and balance problems in both adults and children. He performs complex ear and sinus surgery including hearing implantation and skull base surgery. He has pioneered introduction of Balloon Dilatation of the Eustachian tube in the UK, is the clinical lead of Cambridge regional skull base unit and a member of the hearing implant, head and neck, neurofibromatosis type 2 and pituitary multidisciplinary teams providing high quality specialist care.

Mr Tysome has won many academic prizes over his career including the gold medal from the Royal Society of Medicine for his ranking as 1st in the ENT examination taken by all ENT surgeons at the completion of training. He has edited four ENT books, published over 50 research papers and presented his work internationally on numerous occasions. Mr Tysome is the clinical lead of the Cambridge regional skull base unit. We are one of the largest skull base units in the UK. He is a member of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence Interventional Procedures Committee.
