James N. Kirkpatrick, M.D., is a general cardiologist and director of the Echocardiography Laboratory at UW Medical Center, Seattle. Dr. Kirkpatrick has expertise in transthoracic, stress and transesophageal echocardiography, and special expertise in echocardiography of left ventricular assist devices and in resource-poor settings.
Dr. Kirkpatrick earned his M.D. from Loma Linda University, California. He completed his internship and residency at Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut; and internal medicine, cardiology and clinical medical ethics fellowships at the University of Chicago, Illinois. His clinical and research interests include echocardiography for patients with or at risk for heart failure, patients with cardiac assist devices, patients from medically underserved areas and the measurement of pressures inside the heart; cardiac palliative care, especially for patients with cardiac devices; and clinical medical ethics in cardiology.
