Dr. James McMeekin was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and obtained his medical degree at the University of Manitoba. Internal Medicine and Cardiology training followed at the University of Manitoba. He spent two years at the University of Michigan in subspecialty training in Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology and Nuclear Medicine.

He then spent seventeen years at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, being very active in clinical work, teaching at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels, and administration. He was Chief of Cardiology at the University of Saskatchewan from 1997 to 2001. He relocated to Foothills Medical Centre in 2001 where his main commitment is to Clinical Cardiology and Cardiology teaching while participating in the Heart Transplant Program and the Heart Function Clinic and Quality Improvement. He enjoys his work in the diagnostic heart catheterization laboratory.
