James L. Knoll, IV, M.D. is the Director of Forensic Psychiatry, and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He has worked as a forensic evaluator for state and federal courts, corrections, and the private sector. He has trained extensively with Dr. Phillip J. Resnick, the country’s foremost expert in forensic psychiatry. He is Editor-In-Chief of the Psychiatric Times, and Co-Editor of the Correctional Mental Health Report. Dr. Knoll has a series of short stories entitled Tales of the New Asylums, as well as a regular blog on forensic and psychiatric issues.

Dr. Knoll has collaborated with both the FBI and the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) to publish guidelines for reducing Workplace Violence. His areas of interest include Psychiatric Malpractice, Suicide Risk Assessment & Prevention, Psychological Autopsies, Stalking, Domestic Violence, Mentally Ill Offenders & Correctional Mental Health Issues, Sanity, Competency, Detection of Malingered Mental Illness, Violence Risk & Threat Assessment, Analysis of Inappropriate Communications and Forensic Psycho-linguistics. He has authored over one hundred articles and book chapters.
