James Lewis Cox MD

Dr. James Lewis Cox is a Professor of Surgery at Northwestern University, Chicago. He received the Distinguished Scientist Award from the AATS, STS, and HRS, was President of the AATS, and is in the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.

Dr. Cox was named one of 30 Pioneers in Cardiothoracic Surgery for the first half-century of the specialty by the University of Paris in 2000. Other honors include the Shimert Gold Medal, Fish Award, Ricketts Award, Burakovsky Award, and the Vishnevsky Medal.

Dr. Cox is best known for the development of the eponymous “Cox-Maze Procedure” for atrial fibrillation. His research interests are Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Cardiovascular Diseases, Arrhythmia Surgery, Valve Regeneration, Atrial Fibrillation, Angioplasty, and Heart Diseases.
