James Francombe, BSC (Hons), MB ChB, FRCS (Gen Surg) is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at The Warwick Hospital. He was born in Wokingham, England in 1966, and raised in Porthcawl, S. Wales. Now living in Leamington Spa, and is married with three children. James was educated at Porthcawl Comprehensive School, and then at The University of Liverpool where he gained his primary medical qualification in 1991. He has been a fellow of the Royal College and Surgeons of England since 1995, passing the intercollegiate exam in General Surgery in 2001.

James undertook a year's fellowship in colorectal surgery at the Prince of Wales hospital in Sydney, Australia in 2001. His student electives were in 1989 at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend, South Wales, where he studied orthopedic Surgery, and in 1990 at the Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia, studying Tropical medicine. James is a member of Warwick Hospital's continence team which won the Hospital Doctors continence team of the year award in November 2007. James was an Anatomy demonstrator for 1 year from August 1992 to July 1993. Subsequently, he has had active roles in teaching undergraduate medical students during all hospital rotations. He has also taught Postgraduate doctors on FRCS, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and PPH courses. Following their appointment as a consultant, he maintained his interest in teaching, regularly giving invited talks to the Warwick and Worcester BSTs and also participating in the surgical skills courses ran at Warwick hospital. His areas of research have covered Sentinel lymph node biopsy in colorectal carcinoma, and the staging of colorectal cancer using CT and MRI
