James David Garnett, MD, FACS is an associate professor in the department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and is the director of the Voice and Swallowing Center within the department. He underwent his undergraduate and medical training at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia and completed his residency in Otolaryngology at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. He then underwent fellowship training in Laryngology and Professional Voice at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville Tennessee.

Dr. Garnett has been nationally active in education and research including appointments to the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and a member of multiple education committees within the Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He is most proud of the six teaching awards he has received for advanced resident education.
