James C. Robinson, Ph.D., MPH, is a Visiting Fellow in the Division of Outcomes and Effectiveness Research. He is on sabbatical from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, where he is the Leonard D. Schaeffer Professor of Health Economics in the Division of Health Policy and Management and Chair of the Berkeley Center for Health Technology. 

Dr. Robinson received his BA in Economics and Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Cruz, his MPH in Health Planning and Policy from the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health, and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley Department of Economics. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Health Policy from the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco. 

Dr. Robinson's research interests include biotechnology policy and strategy, health insurance, physician payment methods, health care finance, and nonprofit and for-profit organization. He has had extensive research support from governmental, private, and institutional sources, and has published widely in leading medical and health policy journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association, New England Journal of Medicine, Health Affairs, and Health Services Research. He is also Senior Director for Medical Technology at the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) and a Contributing Editor for Health Affairs.
