James Chen-tson Fang, M.D., is the Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine and Director of the Cardiovascular Service Line at University of Utah Health Care.Dr. Fang, who specializes in treatment of patients with heart failure, most recently held the Spitz Master Clinician Chair at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, where he was a professor of medicine and associate chief of clinical affairs for cardiovascular medicine. He is a highly regarded clinician, teacher, mentor and researcher.

Dr. Fang’s role at the University of Utah includes leading efforts to ensure the institution is recognized as a premier clinical, educational, and research institution for cardiovascular disease. He continues to develop highly skilled multidisciplinary teams that provide comprehensive, personalized and cost-effective care, and oversee integration of research and clinical care programs.

While at Case Western Reserve, Dr. Fang served as Medical Director of the Heart Failure, Transplant, and Circulatory Assist Program and Chief Medical Officer for the Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute.

Dr. Fang graduated from the Duke University School of Medicine in 1988, and went on to complete internships and residencies at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore as well as a cardiovascular fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. The author of multiple books, Dr. Fang has taught at Case Western Reserve, Johns Hopkins, and at the Harvard University School of Medicine.
