James J. Carroll, MBA, is a President, Chief Executive Officer, and investor with deep expertise at the intersection of advanced finance, entrepreneurship, and life sciences. He currently serves as President and CEO of RNA NanoBiotics, Inc., where he leads the development of precision RNA-based therapeutics for hard-to-treat cancers, leveraging a proprietary four-way junction (4WJ) RNA nanoparticle platform licensed from The Ohio State University. His leadership focuses on translating cutting-edge academic innovation into scalable, clinically and commercially viable biotechnology solutions.
In addition to his operating role, James is President and Board Chairman of the Wharton Alumni Angels and Locust Walk Seed Investments, where he oversees early-stage investment activities, governance, and long-term strategic stewardship. Previously, he served as Managing Director of Life Science Investments for Wharton Alumni Angels, managing an extensive early-stage investment network across North America and leading diligence, deal sourcing, and syndication efforts for companies with the potential to deliver meaningful societal and patient impact.
James brings a uniquely multidisciplinary background, combining formal training in chemistry with advanced business, finance, and entrepreneurship education. He holds an MBA from the D’Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University and completed executive and advanced programs at The Wharton School, MIT Sloan, Harvard Business School, and Harvard Medical School, with focused studies in private equity, venture capital, healthcare innovation, biomedical entrepreneurship, and technology commercialization. His academic foundation also includes studies in organic chemistry at Northeastern University.
