James Beeson is an research fellow of the Australian Research Council and National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia. He is head of the Centre for Immunology at Burnet Institute, and runs the malaria clinical and translational research group at Burnet Institute. His work is largely focused on clinical and population studies of malaria in Africa, Asia and Papua New Guinea and primarily aims to understand human immunity to malaria and develop vaccines against malaria. He also has projects on malaria cell biology and anti-malarial drug discovery. James trained in clinical medicine and public health, and completed a PhD on malaria in pregnancy. He has worked in Kenya, Malawi, and the Thai-Myanmar border, regions where malaria is a major health problem.
