Dr. Jair C. Soares joined the UTHealth (University of Texas Health) in 2009 and currently serves as Professor and Chair Pat R. Ruthford Jr.em Psychiatry at UTHealth
Medical School at Houston. Also holds the position of Executive Director of UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center. As a graduate psychiatrist he serves as Chief of Psychiatry Services at Memorial Hermann Hospital and LBJ Hospital. Both hospitals offer treatment and serve as clinical training facilities for medical students the UTHealth, residents and fellows in psychiatry.
Dr. Smith directs the UT Center of Excellence on Mood Disorders which focuses on research causes and development of new treatments for mood disorders. Center consists of a team of specialist in neuroscience dynamic search clinical (neuroimaging, neurophysiology, cognitive neuroscience and genetics), as well as clinical psychopharmacology and research interventions.
After graduating in medicine from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1990, Dr. Soares completed psychiatric residency in adult psychiatry at USP and residence in research General Psychiatry at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, University of Pittsburgh. followed by neuroimaging in scholarship in the psychiatry department at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Smith received his PhD degree in medical sciences
the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Prior to joining UTHealth, Dr. Soares He served as Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Center of Excellence in Research Treatment and Bipolar Disorders is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and as vice president of research and chief of the division of mood disorders and anxiety in psychiatry department at UTHealth Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Smith received several honors and awards, including the National Plaque of Honor.
